Movies to Watch: September 2022

Opinion by Ethan Irish
Pinocchio, September 8th
Disney+
Disney is doing another live-action remake of a beloved children's tale with "Pinocchio" that is set to release in September. The story of Pinocchio is one that has been told many times over the years with the most recent being released by Lionsgate Entertainment titled "Pinocchio: A True Story" earlier this year. Pinocchio is the story of a wooden boy who wants to be a real boy and has to go through the challenges of life to find out what it means to make hard choices. It shows that people have to fight their temptations even if the correct choice is not always the easy one.
Although I don't want Disney to ruin another good story I think this movie will be a fun watch. Even the live-action version of "The Lion King" wasn't terrible it was just a little too real, in my opinion so the story did not really mean as much. Tom Hanks is also playing Geppetto, Pinocchio's father/creator in the movie and that will be cool to see him in a role like this.
With another Pinocchio movie coming out in December for Netflix done by Guillermo Del Toro, Disney's version will need to do a good job so it is not overlooked by year's end.

Blonde, September 8th
Netflix
This story is a fictional portrayal by Ana de Armas about the life of actress Marilyn Monroe. It has an NC-17 rating which Armas has openly criticized before the movies September release stating she "...didn't understand why that happened," and that there are many other movies with worse content.
The movie will take us through the journey of Monroe's traumatizing journey to stardom in which involves assault and a very difficult childhood. What will be interesting to see with this movie is how much they go into Monroe's past and how well Armas plays the character. Again, this is a fictionalized representation of the actress's life up until her death at the young age of 36.
Alongside Armas will be Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale, Sara Paxton, and many more.

Don't Worry Darling, September 23rd
Exclusively in theaters
The behind the scenes drama of the Olivia Wilde directed film has been a top headline in media for while now, but it is almost time for the movie to release and we'll see if the drama messed with the acting ability of the cast. Whether it be Wilde getting served papers on stage at Comic-Con, Harry Styles' weird accent, the controversy involving Shia LaBeouf, or the rumored beef between Wilde and Florence Pugh there are enough things going around that could damage the strength of this film. I'm kind of just interested to see how it goes. It could be a great film with Styles, Pugh, Wilde, and Chris Pine as leads, it does have a strong cast it is just a matter of if the chemistry will be lacking.
The movie is a psychological thriller about the investigation by Pugh's character into her husband's employer, who is played by Chris Pine. The premise of the movie is intriguing but will the cast still shine with the behind the scenes turmoil? We shall see.

The Greatest Beer Run Ever, September 30th
Apple TV+
This is the movie I look forward to the most, led by Zac Efron and Russell Crowe, "The Greatest Beer Run Ever" is the story about a New Yorker, Efron, during the time of the Vietnam War wanting to show the men overseas that the people back home have their backs. He does this by going over there and doing the most American gesture, giving each soldier a beer. The movie is based on a true story, which it had to be in order to make it because I don't think they would have been able to pull this off if it were fictional.
While the nature of the gesture is heartwarming at its core, our main character will quickly realize the obvious dangers of willingly going to the frontlines of the controversial war. I am interested to see how they balance the comedy in this film while also making light of the tragedy that was the Vietnam War. Should be a fun adventure film coming out later this month.
